Our Snowy "Affair"

We are back!!!

After a somewhat treacherous drive north, we arrived.  This was the first time I remember wearing gloves, scarves, hats, and more layers just to set up the booth.  The unloading of the trailer took even more layers ;)
But now, after a warm meal and a comfy night's sleep, we are refreshed and ready to go.  We are located in the Travel and Transportation Building, Booth #195-196.  We have some great specials going on that you don't want to miss!  And Karen is doing a demo to make your quilting life easier (or you beginners can learn quickly), so stop by and visit with us.

The First Warehouse Sale of the Year!!

This past weekend, we hosted our first Warehouse Sale of 2014.  We had a great time and got to meet a lot of new friends and customers.
Angela Yosten of Angela Yosten Designs joined us to show her amazing designs and fabric line by Moda.

And we had a great time with the ladies from the Dallas Quilt Guild, who were doing a retreat down the hill.  And don't forget to check out their Quilt Show at Dallas Market Hall on March 7-9th - we will have booth there and would love to see you!

Welcome to the New Year!

So yes, I've been behind posting during the holidays.  Sorry :(  Here's a glimpse of what went on during our absence.

As many of you know, Home a la mode is family-run business.  We aren't all family by blood, but we are family none the less :)  So, much of our time during the holidays is spent with our families, immediate and beyond...

My hubby and I started a tradition with our girls last year where we take them out to a nice dinner on Christmas Eve Eve.  Their restaurant of choice is a Hibachi place near our house - we had a great time and a delicious dinner.

Unfortunately, both Karen and Brenda spent a big portion of the Christmas season sick :(  And if you've ever seen either of them at a show, you know it takes a lot to keep them from being up and running around.

However, once Karen got to feeling a little better, we had our family Christmas celebration... complete with all 13 grandkids.  Now that they can read, it is much easier for them to play "Santa" and give us adults a break.

Another high point of the holiday season is Karen's birthday.  Her wonderful husband took her to see her favorite show, the Trans Siberian Orchestra.  After the show, my family, my brother-in-law, and some of the grandkids met her for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.

We hope you all enjoyed your time with family and friends during the past holiday season.  Karen, Brenda, and myself are looking forward to seeing you all in the future at our shows and online.  Stay tuned for some fun tutorials, giveaways, and of course, our adventures from the road.

Our Holiday Party

The ladies of Home a la mode know how to have a good time.  We spend so much time together at shows that if you overheard some of our comments and jokes to each other, you might question our sanity :)
For our Christmas party this year, we decided to head out into the world and let our creative juices flow.  We have a place in our area, as many of you do as well, where you come to learn to paint called "Painting with a Twist".  The teacher gives us the step by step instructions, all the while encouraging creativity and putting your own flair into the finished product.

Here is how ours turned out.
What are some of your favorite Christmas activities to do with your friends and family?

Coffee Sack Races

A very dear customer and friend of ours is a medical missionary.  She travels to Africa, Mexico, and beyond, helping to provide medical care for those in need.  A few months back, before one of her trips, she purchases a few of our Burlap Coffee Bags to take with her.  She was wanting to give the children something to do while they waited for their medical treatment.  She was kind enough to share a few of the pictures from this little village in Mexico :)
This little one was catching some big air!
I love the look of happiness in the little girl's face, as she is beating the boys
This is what pure joy looks like
Please share your pictures of our products at work in your life, and you too, might just get featured on our blog :)

Have fun!

And the "Affair" continues...

Once again, we have found our way to the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds for the Affair of the Heart show!  After a quick drive north (at least it felt quick since I was sleeping while Karen did the driving), we arrived, found our booth and began the TEDIOUS task of setting up.  It's not as bad as we make it sounds, and we have fun while doing it :)

Here's a little glimpse of what it looks like when it is "finished".  I say "finished" because if you've ever seen us at work, we NEVER stop moving.  We are constantly moving, rearranging, and sorting product.  You could visit us a few different times during a show and get a completely different look.

Come out to the Travel & Transportation Building, Booth #157 and visit us!  Mention this blog post for a special gift!

See what our giveaway led to...

A little while back, we did a Coffe Bag giveaway with BJ on her blog Sweet Nothings.  Our winner was Carlene from Organized Clutter.  She took our Original Coffee Bag and did a great upcycling project with a garage sale find.  Check it out here!
And keep you eyes out for more giveaways in the near future ;)
